Gurudev Nidar Singh Nihang who belongs to the Nihang sect of Sikhs, has set on a world mission to revive and preserve the "Sanatan Shastra Vidya", the original Indian Martial Arts tradition.

On being asked about the Nihang Sikh intervention in Babri Masjid in 1858, Gurudev explained how preserving the rights of Hindus and the Sanatan Dharma is the moral duty of Sikhs. Doing "Hawans" was not anything surprising, as the Nihangs have been doing Hawans since time immemorial and were even thus called "Fire Worshippers" by the British.

During the session Gurudev describes the advent of Martial traditions in India starting from Takshila, called the "Nagavanshis" which were the earliest martial dynasty followed by Sooryavanshis and Chandravanshis and so on. The British were fiercely scared by the Indian Martial traditions and had to use ideological and divisive tactics to dismantle such communities, like the Sikhs, the Marathas, Rajputs, etc., and that the Sikhs were stabbed in the back by some of their own politicians due to which they lost in Third Anglo-Sikh War.

He also explains how the British introduced the "Criminal Tribes Act", which enabled any threatworthy person wielding weapons to be shot dead by the British and disarming of citizens by the Arms Act.

"WE DID NOT SURRENDER"

Gurudev talks about how the Nihangs were perhaps the only community to not give up on their weapons, and had been steadily organising resistance to British while their other counterparts like Rajputs and Marathas bowed against them, which even today can be seen that Nihangs still carry their traditional weapons with them. "Our Sword Represents The Order Of Waheguru", says Gurudev, explaining the essence of spirituality and morality with fearless combative power in Nihangs.

While elucidating more on the Martial traditions, he also mentioned that how all the Kshatriyas like Rajputs, Nihangs, Marathas, Jats etc. were united with the worship of Devi in the forms of Bhawani, Chandi, Jagdambe or Maa Durga.

The narrative formed by the British in India and the Indian Youth's attraction towards the western culture is the primary reason of them being ignorant and having an inferior perception towards their own traditions.

Gurudev also announced that he and his team will soon launch an App based on Sanatan Shastra Vidya and will help teaching people about the same.
